چکیده
Abstract Background The movement ecology of mutton snapper Lutjanus analis is poorly understood despite their ecological and economic importance in the Caribbean. Passive acoustic telemetry was used to determine home ranges six adult L. , including diel patterns, Brewers Bay, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Understanding long-term space use, site fidelity habitat usage, necessary implement effective appropriate management actions for a species with extensive resource needs. Results Individual were tracked over an average period 316 days (range 125–509 days) showed high relatively small (mean ± SD: 0.103 0.028 km 2 range 0.019–0.190 ) core use areas low overlap among individuals. Most had composition dominated by seagrass lesser degree, coral reef and/or pavement. Nighttime activity spaces distinct from but contained within daytime areas. Conclusions Mutton strong Bay. Two individuals that absent array more than few hours detected at separate arrays spawning aggregation sites. This study expands upon knowledge characteristics, highlights maintaining adjacent high-quality types any spatial plan, encourages adoption other strategies, particularly transient-aggregating species.

Cryopreservation of mutton snapper ( Lutjanus analis) sperm.
This study aimed to develop a protocol of semen cryopreservation of the mutton snapper Lutjanus analis. The interaction between three extenders ( pH 6.1; 7.8 and 8.2) , two concentrations of dimethyl sulfoxide ( DMSO, 5 and 10%) and three cooling rates ( -90; -60 and -30°C.min-1) on the sperm motility rate and motility time were analyzed by a factorial experiment. A sample of 30 fishes ( 1,261 ...

A parasitological survey was carried out on a sample of sixty mutton snappers (Lutjanus analis) that were caught on the coast of Alagoas, northeastern Brazil. The parasite diversity and infection levels were low. The ectoparasite Rocinela signata Schioedte & Meinert, 1879 (Isopoda: Aegidae), and larvae of two endoparasites, Trypanorhyncha gen. sp. and Hysterothylacium sp. (Nematoda: Anisakidae)...

Recent settlement trends in Panulirus argius (Decapoda: Palinuridae) pueruli around St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Puerulus settlement of the western Atlantic spiny lobster, Panulirus argus, was monitored using modified Witham collectors from December 1996 to March 1998 at seven sites around St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. A total of 605 pueruli were collected from 553 samples for a catch per unit effort (CPUE) for all sites of 1.09 pueruli. The greatest settlement occurred on sites within a recently decla...
